Projects

Here I will make a list of all of the major class projects we're doing in class. It will also include an example and description.

Project 1: Line Art Animals

Our first project is Line Art Animals. We will be drawing outlines of animals on a piece of drawing paper, then filling in these animals with designs. 85% of the animals should be filled with neat designs, and the animal should fill the page. We will have 3 class periods to work on these.

Project 2:  Still Life Project

Our second project was a still life project. We learned about all the different ways we can add value to an object (stippling, cross-hatching, hatching, scribbling, etc.), and in this project chose one of those ways to make an object look 3 dimensional. We chose one object from class (or home) and spent a couple of days trying to accurately depict what it looked like.

Project 3: Artist Trading Cards

Picture
Our third project was Artist Trading Cards. We each got a set of 9, small cards. Each student thought up their own theme for the cards - there were some who did football players, plants, bands, planets, etc. After the students thought up a theme, it was their goal to make all 9 cards revolve around that theme. They had freedom to choose any material - again some chose marker, colored pencils, spray paint, watercolors, etc. We had four class periods to work on these trading cards, and then the students got to trade with one another! Two of my classes participated as well as Ms. Barney's classes.

Project 4: Colorful Self-Portraits

This project revolved around color. First, students made a color palette using colors that described their personalities and interests. Then the students practiced drawing facial features and learning the anatomy of a face. After all this preparation, students used transfer paper to transfer an image of themselves onto a 9x12 canvas and painted in the image using colors from their color palettes. The goal of the project was to teach students about color symbolism and to also teach them about how to draw a human face (since many requested to learn about this skill at the beginning of the semester).

Final Project: Fortune Cookies

Our final project is going to be a fortune cookie- inspired artwork.
You are going to have a lot of freedom on this project. I want you to take everything that you have learned from this semester and apply it to this final project.
Material choice is going to be between watercolors or colored pencils, size and subject are up to you (but must connect back to your fortune cookie), and I still expect you to work hard, take risks, and create something worthwhile!
You will each get a fortune cookie. You must create an artwork based on the fortune you receive. You will create a mind-map and thumbnails beforehand to help you brainstorm your ideas.
